We have an immediate opening for a software Technical Writer in the MSI Data Product Management department. As Technical Writer, you will create product documentation for delivery in multiple formats to customers, employees, and partners. You will stay on top of our release cycles and deliver new feature documentation for every release. You will work closely with the Senior Technical Writer as well as the Product Management, Development, and Delivery teams.

Your Role on the Team

  • Create change logs and release notes for the new features delivered in each product release.
  • Update core documentation and generate updated HTML help and PDF user guides with every release.
  • Stay on top of release schedules and deliver documentation proactively with minimal supervision.
  • Write high-quality user-focused help content using screen captures and visualizations to improve user understanding.
  • Understand our customers and their goals, and adapt that information into relevant use cases and examples that explain the WHY behind the WHAT.
  • Understand our product by attending development meetings, researching tickets, and using the product.
  • Collaborate on video scripts, set up realistic sample data, and record reference videos.
  • Collaborate with Engineers, Product Managers, UX designers, and Marketing as needed.
  • Travel is minimal.

 

Professional Qualities and Background

  • Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Business, Marketing, or English.
  • Excellent writing and research skills.
  • Experience adhering to style guides.
  • A high technical aptitude, a positive attitude, obsessive attention to detail, and a strong desire to learn and succeed.
  • Track record of problem solving and innovation.
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to communicate deadlines and dependencies.
  • Proactive self-starter with a record of producing results with minimal direction.

 

Pluses, Nice to Haves

  • Experience developing software documentation such as help and user guides.
  • Experience working closely with engineering and product management teams as part of the software development process.
  • Experience with MadCap Flare or other similar content management systems/help tools.
