A few members of the go-to-market team headed to the West Coast for a September conference with the Electrical Generating Systems Association (EGSA) filled with insights on the ‘age of AI’ in field service.
INTRO
The September, Electrical Generating Systems Association (EGSA) Fall Conference, held a few weeks ago, was centered around an exciting and up-and-coming topic: Artificial Intelligence.
Exclusive sessions brought lots of enthusiasm and value, including our very own product leader, Steve Berry, sharing field service applications for AI with Scheduling and Routing. Gone are the days of pen and paper or whiteboard dispatching methods and in with the robots, right? Not quite yet – if you were able to spend time in the sessions where AI was discussed and shown, you know that we’re in the early days of this concept and there is a big road ahead.
EGSA AI TASK FORCE – UPDATE
EGSA has brought a group of folks together to dig in and tackle the topic of AI in the Power Generation space called the “AI Task Force.” This task force is made up of many different mindsets from many different organizations, but all with the common interest of “How will AI impact this industry and how can we help our members learn and understand more?”
MSI Data’s VP of Sales and Marketing, Andrew Knox and Product Leader, Steve Berry have joined this group with the goal to both share and learn. We’ve taken a dive into how we can better support EGSA members wrapping their head around this topic, what they should know, and how could AI benefit their organization. At the fall session, the group got together to further tackle this with a great dialogue and a big list of action items to tackle. Stay tuned for what’s to come!
FIELD SERVICE IN THE AGE OF AI
For attendees who wanted insights into Field Service in the Age of AI, Steve Berry’s breakout session was the place to be. Steve’s take on the state of AI now acknowledges its potential, “Selective use of AI for things that AI excels at will accelerate and improve the art of scheduling and routing field service techs. In turn, this will free up resources to be used in other ways. Optimizing tech utilization will also make organizations more profitable and produce higher customer satisfaction”.
The two most important takeaways for the attendees:
1) Everyone needs a plan for scheduling and routing.
2) AI isn’t a magic wand ,but it could be in the future.

AI’s potential field service applications continue to grow, and rest assured that it will remain a prominent theme going into 2025.
