Shovers said it was good to see the upgraded technical capabilities of iPhone 5, such as longer battery life, a faster network and a bigger screen. Those technological advances move the marketplace closer to a point where workers only need a single device in the field and where “the field becomes the office,” Shovers said.

Certainly, one specific area of the industry that has a big need for mobile technology and devices is service construction. Some service organizations might be standardizing on one device these days, while other are considering how to implement policy and strategy for a mobile workforce that is using multiple different devices.

<!–mep-nl–>

It has been quite a year for Harvey Shovers and his software company, MSI Data LLC. The Mequon-based company, which provides mobile and enterprise software primarily for companies that inspect or service products in the field, will more than double its revenue in 2012 and is expected to reach annual revenue of $10 million in the next few years, said Shovers, MSI Data president.

<!–mep-nl–>

So what can be done to slow the decline in the number of new cable TV subscribers? Currently cable companies spend between 5% and 10% of their revenues on advertising and promotions; and discounting impacts revenues by a similar percentage. These are both very ordinary and necessary weapons in the battle against declining cable subscribers but are also very costly.
