The Inaugural Service Pro User Conference Experience – SPUC 2023

Since starting at MSI Data March 1st, 2020, I knew a user conference would be well received by our customers. When one thinks of a solution like Service Pro that is specific to the field service space and those customers share in maximizing profitability for their field service operations, yet the customers from all over the continent and from 15-20 different industries; a user conference is the one golden thread that could stitch them all together.

The goal was to recreate a successful customer-focused event at MSI Data, but the pandemic derailed a lot of things and unfortunately, this was one of them. The vision was always there and earlier this year, we kicked it off in earnest. The Service Pro User Conference, affectionately known as SPUC, was born! We can now say MSI is part of the elite club of software companies that hosts user conferences.😊

Over fifty customers with tenure on the Service Pro platform ranging from thirteen years (yes, our very first customer is growing strong – not a typo!) to five months, and everyone in between. Schlitz Park, the birthplace of the brewery that was once the largest producer of beer in the United States, was the venue where all sessions, meal service, genius bar, and partner booths were held.

The sessions kicked off with a keynote by Jay Haynes, founder of Thrv, a growth-powered equity value creation firm. Jay walked the customers through the Jobs-To-Be-Done structure created by Clayton Christiansen, maximizing profitability for field service operations. The customers were engaged and asking questions and one called out that the model Jay was walking through was proven to work based on the focus on the back-office processes or P/L owners.

Breakout sessions continued throughout the day where users learned of:

  • How to identify, track, and improve critical KPIs to a field service business
  • How to meet the ever-rising expectations of our end clients through innovation and partnerships

The first day of learning was wrapped up with a presentation followed by a Q&A of the “Connected Service Maturity Model – a Guide to Increasing Visibility to Maximize Profitability through Optimization”.

After the first day, all attendees, partners, and employees spent time networking and socializing at Punch Bowl Social. It was great to spend time with all the attendees after a productive Day One of SPUC. The night was capped off with raffle prizes including Yeti coolers representing MSI Data’s colors. It was clear that spending time together, blowing off some steam, playing games, & really spending quality time together as people (not customers or vendors) was a great way to grow together.

Day Two started bright and early with several sessions led by customers, partners, and MSI Data’s Geniuses discussing:

  • Powerful Tips & Tricks for both Back-Office & Mobile users
  • How to gain valuable insights into your service organization through Business Intelligence
  • The power of technology APIs and how bringing systems together can further improve efficiency and effectiveness in your business
  • The future of the Service Pro platform and how we plan to continue to remain on the cutting edge of field service technology

The day ended with MSI Data thanking everyone who attended, thanking the partners for their presence and sponsorship if applicable, and our first awards presentation. Total Energy Systems received the 2023 Ambassador of the Year Award, and Waukesha-Pearce Industries, or WPI received the 2023 Customer of the Year Award. Both awards stood for their commitment and partnership in pushing the use and drive for digitization throughout their organizations.

We are already looking forward to SPUC ’24 scheduled for September 18th & 19th. Will we see you there?
